Biography
Dr. Keith Humphrey joined the University of Northern Colorado in May of 2025 having most recently completed 12 successful years as Vice President for Student Affairs at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Dr. Humphrey’s tenure at Cal Poly was marked by significant development in the modern student experience and commendation by the university’s accreditation agency for his division’s strong partnership with Academic Affairs. He has received the California State University’s Wang Family Excellence Award, the CSU system’s highest recognition, awarded to one staff member annually across all 23 CSU campuses. During his time at Cal Poly, Dr. Humphrey raised nearly $50 million for student success initiatives, including an endowment for student homelessness. He and his team helped the university achieve Hispanic Serving Institution status by centering diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across the student affairs enterprise. This includes opening six cultural centers on campus.
Prior to Cal Poly, Dr. Humphrey served the University of Arizona where he began as an entry-level professional and worked his way through the organization to serve as the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. Additionally, he served as Assistant Professor of Practice and Coordinator of the master’s program in Higher Education within the university’s College of Education.
Dr. Humphrey has also served the higher education profession as President of ACPA-College Student Educators International, a comprehensive international higher education association that focuses on racial justice and decolonization in education.
Dr. Humphrey and his husband, Brett, have two children that they have adopted as former foster children.
