Biography
Helen Herrera was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and is a graduate of the
University of Texas at San Antonio, where she earned both her bachelor’s degree in biology
and master’s degree in biotechnology. During her time at UTSA, she served as a teaching
assistant and graduate research assistant in the Department of Molecular Microbiology
and Immunology. As a teaching assistant, she led lab sections and guided undergraduate
students in their research projects. In her research role, she conducted and presented
work on Vibrio flagellar motility as part of her thesis. Now a Lab Coordinator at the
University of Northern Colorado, Helen is excited to enjoy Colorado’s beautiful weather and
hiking opportunities.
