Research Expertise & Interests

A Community-Academic Partnership to Examine and Promote Best Practices for Virtual Supported Employment Services

This research project is funded by the National Institutes on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (90IFRE0057) exploring assistive technology utilization during the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact on supported employment needs of individuals with significant disabilities. I serve as the UNC Site-PI and in the first year of the project I conducted qualitative research and analysis. These results will be written up in 2023. Years 2 and 3 of the project will focus on quantitative data collection and analysis and field observations.

Colorado’s Sequencing of Services for Students and Youth with Disabilities (SOS)

A pilot project in rural and urban Colorado secondary schools using a framework for interagency collaboration to achieve successful post-secondary outcomes. I participate in state level leadership meetings and events. We are not currently collecting data for this pilot, but I am advising the leadership team on research and evaluation pathways. Through the SOS pilot, I collaborate with various state agencies, local education agencies, and community organizations.

Growth in Youths with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities-Assistance Navigating Competitive Employment (GUIDDANCE)

a research project at Children’s Hospital Colorado exploring the impact of an integrated vocational intervention in multidisciplinary health clinics for youth and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I serve as Co-PI on this project and have helped the project receive Colorado Multiple Institutional Review Board approval. I helped hire and onboard an Intermediate Research Services Professional and data collection will begin in CHCO in 2023.

Partnerships for Progress

The goal of this project is to expand access to transition services and enhancing partnerships through turnover-resistant partnering practices. The project will achieve several major outcomes over the next 5 years aimed to provide children and youth with disabilities and their support systems, as well as service providers innovative new approaches for shared planning, coordination, and collaboration in transition services and for improving the evaluation and impact of transition services across the state.
