The Latina Youth Leadership Conference (LYLC) is a one-day experience that brings together 8th grade students from Weld County and surrounding areas. Students attend with teachers or counselors and spend the day exploring leadership, culture, self-confidence, and education through inspiring speakers and hands-on workshops.

Since 1997, LYLC has connected over 8,000 young leaders with UNC students, faculty, and community mentors. While the conference centers Latina youth, all 8th grade students are welcome and encouraged to participate.

We invite middle schools, counselors, and educators to register their 8th grade students for this transformative one-day experience at the University of Northern Colorado.
Students will spend the day engaging in leadership workshops, hearing from inspiring speakers, connecting with UNC student mentors, and exploring their future in high school, college, and beyond.

The mission of LYLC is to empower students through education, leadership, and cultural awareness, helping them envision a successful future in high school, college, and beyond.

History of LYLC

LYLC was founded in 1997 through a collaboration between Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. and the César Chávez Cultural Center at UNC. Led by Vicki Leal-Larsen and Dr. Carmen Rivera, the first conference planted the seeds for a tradition that continues more than 25 years later. Each year, over 250 students take part in this powerful day of learning and connection.
