Beating the Burnout!
As finals week is approaching, it is important to set aside time for yourself and practice stress management. There are several opportunities on campus in December to do so!
- Tuesday, December 2nd: Future Teacher Club Study Night – The Future Teacher Club is hosting a study night at The Downtown Armory (a local bookstore / plant shop / coffee bar) from 5:30–6:30. This is a great opportunity to get together with peers, support a local business, and lock-in with any studying, homework, or projects you need to focus on!
- Wednesday, December 3rd: Tutorial Services Study Night – Every semester during the week before finals, the tutoring center hosts a study night at Michener Library. From 4:00–8:00 pm, tutors will be available for academic and study support in a variety of math (and other) courses.
- Thursday, December 4th: NHS Dogs and Donuts – Stop by the Ross Hall Courtyard from 8:30–10:00 am to pet dogs and eat donuts. This event is sponsored by NHS.
- Sunday, December 7th: Office of Health Promotion Stress Less Fest! – In the Columbine Suites in the UC from 1:00–3:00pm, OHP will provide a range of crafts and activities for stress management, as well as a giveaway (including prizes and gift cards for local businesses)!
To stay up-to-date about on-campus events of all kinds, be sure to follow @UNCO_OHP, @UNCO_FutureTeacherClub and @UNCO_UPC on Instagram.
Student Teaching in Fall 2026
For those that plan to student teach in the Fall of 2026, your student teaching application will be due on Friday, February 13th. Dr. Reiten will sign off as your content advisor. Remember: All students will have to complete a set of 4 Harmony Inspire Modules and submit evidence of completion to Canvas, before Dr. Reiten will sign the content approval form.
Rural Teaching Survey
Loraine Glidewell, a PhD candidate at the University of Colorado Boulder, is working on a dissertation regarding rural education. Please take this survey about what you know about rural education (it takes about five minutes) to support her research. An email was also sent to all students currently in the Math Teacher Preparation programs.
If you have any questions or concerns about the survey or the research, you can contact Loraine Glidewell at: loraine.glidewell@colorado.edu
Praxis Information
- To become licensed by the Colorado Department of Education, future teachers need to pass the appropriate Praxis exam. To send your scores to UNC, use the code 4074 when taking the exam. You are given 180 minutes (3 hours) to complete 66 questions (not all questions are scored the same). Each attempt costs $130 but you can take it as many times as necessary. You must have taken the Praxis before STEP 363 and passed before STEP 464 (Student Teaching).
- Versions and Passing Scores
- Secondary Math Teachers (6-12) need to take Praxis 5165 and get a score of 159 to pass.
- Middle School Math Teachers (6-8) need to take Praxis 5164 and get a score of 157 to pass

UNC Scholarship Application
Remember that UNC offers a wide variety of scholarship opportunities for which current students are eligible to apply. The scholarship application is open and is due in February. Some scholarships have earlier application dates than others, so be sure to check the deadlines for any specific scholarships that you may be applying to! The earlier you apply, the more opportunities you have to receive scholarships.
You have to reapply each year to be considered for new scholarships!
