A Message Regarding the César Chávez Cultural Center
University leadership is aware of recent reports regarding allegations involving César Chávez, as well as statements from leaders in the farmworker movement, including Dolores Huerta. We recognize that this news may be difficult and concerning for members of our community, and we are continuing to monitor and assess the situation.
Fellow Bears,
University leadership is aware of recent reports regarding allegations involving César Chávez, as well as statements from leaders in the farmworker movement, including Dolores Huerta. We recognize that this news may be difficult and concerning for members of our community, and we are continuing to monitor and assess the situation.
UNC condemns all forms of abuse, including sexual assault, and remains committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all members of our community.
Because one of our cultural and resource centers bears the name of César Chávez, we will convene a group of campus and community stakeholders in the coming weeks to review the center’s naming. This group will be charged with gathering input and providing recommendations to university leadership regarding the center’s current and future name.
We recognize that this situation may have particular impact on members of our community, including those who identify closely with the legacy of César Chávez, as well as survivors of sexual violence. Support resources remain available during Spring Break and beyond. We encourage anyone in need to reach out:
