Sending Transcripts to UNC

To avoid delays, send all transcripts for admissions purposes directly to admissions@unco.edu

Please allow 48-72 business hours for transcript processing.

Unofficial High School transcripts will be accepted for all current high school students for the purpose of admissions. You or your school counselor can have that sent through email to admissions@unco.edu or students can upload a PDF via your UNC application portal (login required). To be considered acceptable, unofficial high school transcripts must meet the following requirements:

  • Flat and readable – avoid images and submit a pdf version whenever possible
  • Clearly readable text that includes the full name of the student in addition to the school name
  • Include complete coursework grades 9 through 11 (unless otherwise accompanied by an early graduation certificate)

If you have already graduated from high school but are applying as a first-year student, you will be required to submit an official final high school transcript at the time of admission.

Sending Official HS Transcripts

Electronic / Third-Party Services / Email (PDF)

Most official HS Transcripts will be received electronically by email directly from the school registrar, or, through a third-part service such as Naviance (if available through your high school) or  Common Application. UNC Admissions will accept a high school transcript as official coming through an electronic service, even those not listed here, so long as UNC admissions has an existing connection or ability to retrieve the document.

School counselors are also invited and encouraged to upload student transcripts and documents directly to Slate.org.

To avoid delays, make sure to provide the email admissions@unco.edu when prompted.

Enrolling High School Students

Official Final high school transcripts are required for all incoming first-year students. First-year students must submit final high school transcripts prior to the start of classes or a registration hold will be placed on their account that will prevent the student from registering for classes. Final high school transcripts or other proof of high school graduation (for example, a diploma) are required for transfer students who have not obtained an associate degree.

Sending Official College/University Transcripts

To be considered official, college transcripts must be sent directly to the university. No electronic transcripts issued directly to the student will be accepted as officials. The following are all approved methods for all students to submit official college transcript to UNC for admissions consideration, transfer credit evaluation, or as a condition of admission to prevent a registration hold.

Electronic Delivery / Third-Party Service

All documents and credentials can be submitted through Naviance (if available through your high school), Parchment, or National Clearinghouse.

Sealed Enveloped (In-Person)

In person to UNC Office of Admissions or the Office of the Registrar in a sealed envelope from the previous institution(s). If the seal is intact and the transcript is stamped or noted “Issued to Student,” it will be accepted as official.

If you previously attended UNC, and are applying to a degree-seeking program, you do not need to request a transcript for admissions purposes.

Students looking to request a copy of their UNC transcript to send to another institution can complete that request through the Office of the Registrar.

You will need to go to this website: Request Your GED Transcript & Diploma Online | GED® which, if you took your GED in Colorado, will take you to the diploma sender site. Make sure you select the transcript option, not the diploma or letter of verification and the transcript must be sent to UNC. When requesting to send it, you can select the e-mail option and type “University of Northern Colorado” and the admissions@unco.edu e-mail address for it to be sent to us officially.

Sending GED Scores

Students who graduate early from high school are held to the same standard of admission as first-year students and should apply as such. High school academics and first-year admissions requirements are expected to be met. In addition to the first-year application and supporting materials, students will need to submit the Early Graduate Supplemental Information Form.

For more information, contact your admissions counselor or reach out to admissions@unco.edu for support.

We cannot accept international transcripts that are submitted electronically by the applicant. For us to receive and review your transcripts, they must be sent to us in an official format directly from your college or university, the issuing institution, or your local ministry of education.

To proceed with your application, I recommend contacting your university to request that they send your official transcript directly to the University of Northern Colorado.

To facilitate this process, please take the following steps:

  • Contact your prior college or university and request that they send your transcripts in an electronic format to the following email address: international@unco.edu. This is the preferred method for receiving your transcripts.
  • If your college or university is unable to send electronic transcripts, they can mail the transcripts in a sealed official school envelope to us at the following address:
    • University of Northern Colorado
      Campus Box 10 (Admissions)
      501 20th St
      Greeley Co, 80639

*Please note that if the transcript is not in English, a certified English translation must be provided.

We understand that obtaining official transcripts can sometimes be challenging, but it is a crucial part of our application review process. If you encounter any difficulties or have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us, and we will be happy to assist you further.

UNC requires a high school degree (or equivalent) to take undergraduate coursework and a bachelor’s degree to take graduate coursework. To validate this requirement, you will need to submit an official transcript for your degree, depending on the course level you choose. You will get additional information about how to submit your official transcript via email once you submit the non-degree seeking application.

Student pursuing professional development/continuing education or mentor teacher pathways are NOT required to submit academic documents to be processed.

For members of the United States’ military, we ask that you request your Joint Service Transcript (JST) be sent to us to include as a part of your admissions application. This allows us to ensure that we have a complete admissions record for you, which matters for financial aid as well as evaluating any military experience that could count as college-level credit.

Additional Documents

In some cases, students may be asked to submit non-academic documents or otherwise choose to strengthen their application with additional information.

Please follow the submission instructions carefully and be sure all documents are accurate, current and legible.

Many graduate programs require additional materials beyond the general application, such as resumes/CVs, statements of purpose, writing samples, portfolios, prerequisite coursework documentation, or letters of recommendation. Specific requirements and deadlines vary by program, so be sure to review the instructions for your intended degree carefully and submit all materials as directed.

Applications will not considered complete or reviewed until all required program documents have been received. To ensure full consideration, candidates should submit all required documents prior to the stated application deadline.

Sending Required Test Scores

For some students, score may be a required as part of your application. Standardized test score requirements will vary depending on your background and/or the type or level of program you’re applying to. To be considered, standardized test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency. Specific score requirements vary by applicant and degree type, so be sure to review the admission criteria for your intended program to understand which scores you’ll need to provide. For example, applicants may need to submit GED scores, GRE scores for certain graduate or professional programs, or English proficiency scores (such as TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo) if they were educated in a non-English-speaking system.

Optional Undergraduate Test Scores

Undergraduate students seeking to have AP, IB or other exam scores reviewed for possible college credit, start by contacting the testing agency directly and requesting that your official scores be sent to UNC. While undergraduate admission is test-optional and you are not required to submit standardized test scores for admission review, official score reports are needed if you’d like us to evaluate exams for potential credit toward your degree.

SAT Scores  ACT Scores

All applicants are welcome to strengthen your application by sharing more of what makes you you. While optional, additional materials—like a personal statement, letter of recommendation from a teacher/counselor/mentor, or an explanation of special circumstances—can provide helpful context about your experiences, achievements and goals. If you choose to submit them, our admissions team will review your materials holistically alongside your application to better understand your potential as a student here.

Materials can be sent directly to admissions@unco.edu or uploaded directly to your application portal.

Under Colorado law (C.R.S. 25-4-901), all students are required to submit proof of immunizations or a valid exemption. At UNC, you’ll need to complete this step before you can meet with your academic advisor and register for classes.

If your records aren’t submitted, a hold will be placed on your account that will prevent class registration.

You can upload your immunization records or submit an exemption through your Admissions Portal.
