On April 26, 2023 the professional advisor network heard from key campus partners
involved with registration and new student orientation for incoming Fall '23 students.

- UNIV 101 Presentation for Advising Network
- UNIV 101 is a 3 credit, research based academic course which balances college level
academic tasks with support from highly trained Doctoral Candidate instructors and
class leaders
- Practical skills introduced in this course include reading research articles, completing
a scholarly project, discussing time management skills and professional communication,
among others.
- UNIV 101 is a required course for
- CHE students
- GOAL students
- Honors students
- Exploring students (excluding nursing - exploring)

- ~1 Minute (Video 2): Written Communication & Directed Student Placement

- Written Communication Placement Presentation
- Students are recommended for ENG 123 based on their DSP score. The DSP asks about
attitudinal, reading comprehension, and grammar/mechanics. They recommend everyone
takes it and orientation has built in many checks related to it.
- The recommended placement is available in Slate
- Option A includes the extra support with ENG 123. This is just a recommendation that
you will see in Slate based on DSP
- Option B includes a standard track of ENG 122
- Option C starts with the intermediate track and is recommended based on ACT/SAT or
if they already have credit for a LAW2 course.
- Tara is on contract this summer to check emails and Teams for support and questions.
- The linked ENG 122/132 sections are listed in the presentation linked above. You can
also view the information for individual courses by selecting "Co-requisites" when
looking at course details.

- Language Placement Best Practices
- SPAN 100 (Introductory Spanish) & SPAN 200 (Intermediate Low Spanish) have replaced
SPAN 101 & SPAN 201, respectively.
- If a student is interested in beginning with
SPAN 100, CHIN 101, or JAPN 101, no placement test is required.
- Placement exams for Spanish and Chinese are to be taken via Emmersion Learning.
- The score that they receive corresponds to the level of the course. The scores are
stored in SOATest with Banner
- Placement exams for Japanese are done by appointment. Contact Dr. Donald Holman (donald.holman@unco.edu) for further steps.
- Review the Prior Learning Policy
- There are no placement-eligible French or German courses being offered in the 23-24
AY.

- Aims2UNC Program Presentation
- Aims2UNC is a transition program that is centered on supporting students as they pursue an associate’s degree
from Aims and a four-year degree at UNC.
- Streamlined & customized advising with degree requirements in mind, student engagement
opportunities, & dual campus experience through access to resources, facilities, clubs,
etc at both institutions.
- Over 75 students transitioning to UNC as a part of the Fall 2023 Cohort.
- Program requirements:
- Minimum of two advising appointments per term
- Must maintain a 2.0 cumulative gpa, 3.0 for scholarship eligibility
- Must complete two Aims2UNC sponsored/approved engagement opportunities per term

- Catalog for AY 23/24 will be published on June 1st
- Degree Planner updates will be live end of May (official announcement will be sent
day of accessibility).
