Marcus Garvey Director Search

April 19, 2021

The search for the Director of the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center is currently underway. The search committee, chaired by Shawanna Kimbrough-Hayward, includes Angie Henderson, Sociology Professor; Myria Davis, Interim MGCC Director and Graduate Student; Tammy Ortiz, Graduate Student; and Rudy Vargas, Coordinator of Undocumented Students and the DREAMer Engagement Program.

First-round Zoom interviews included ten selected candidates, and concluded last week. The search committee has invited three finalist candidates to second-round "on-campus interviews” during the week of April 26. Open forum invitations for students, faculty, and staff will run in both the UNC Today and the Around Campus publications. We encourage the campus community to attend the open forum Zoom sessions with the following finalists invited to campus:

Your participation and feedback on these candidates is valued and we encourage both your participation and the sharing of this information among the faculty, staff and students within your department. The Director of the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center is an integral position within the Division of Student Affairs and will work directly with UNC students, especially those students who identify within the Black and African diaspora. Links for finalist cover letters and resumes are provided above. Please email Jennifer.stokes@unco.edu to receive a calendar invitation and Zoom link to participate. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon.
