International Day of Persons with Disabilities

December 01, 2020

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated annually on December 3 and the theme for 2020 is “Not all disabilities are visible”. The focus is to raise awareness and an understanding that many disabilities are not visible including mental illness, brain injuries, learning and cognitive dysfunctions, and others. At UNC specifically, over 60% of students who work with the Disability Resource Center have non-visible disabilities. The recognition of this day is a wonderful reminder to us all to evaluate the barriers that may exist within our units that may be a hindrance to people with either a visible or non-visible disability.
