Grant Funding

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) oversees the distribution of research and conference grant funding through a competitive application process that occurs four times per fiscal year. GSA grants are supplemental in nature to aid in the academic and professional development of UNC’s graduate students. Due to the limited nature of grant funding, each application cycle is highly competitive and designed to expose graduate students to the scrutiny and subjectivity of grants in the public and private sectors. Grant Session and Application Due Dates

Fiscal Year 2018-19

If your conference or research takes place July– August 2018 (Cycle 1)
  • Date Application will be available and GSA will start accepting them: July 1
  • Due Date of Application. Submit your application by 5 p.m. on: July 20
  • Date recipient will be notified regarding funding decisions: August 10
  • Deadline for recipients to collect funding: August 31
If your conference or research takes place Sept.– Dec. 2018 (Cycle 2)
  • Date Application will be available and GSA will start accepting them: September 1
  • Due Date of Application. Submit your application by 5 p.m. on: October 19
  • Date recipient will be notified regarding funding decisions: November 16
  • Deadline for recipients to collect funding: December 31
If your conference or research takes place Jan.– April 2019 (Cycle 3)
  • Date Application will be available and GSA will start accepting them: January 1
  • Due Date of Application. Submit your application by 5 p.m. on: February 15
  • Date recipient will be notified regarding funding decisions: March 15
  • Deadline for recipients to collect funding: April 30
If your conference or research takes place May– June 2019 (Cycle 4)
  • Date Application will be available and GSA will start accepting them: May 1
  • Due Date of Application. Submit your application by 5 p.m. on: May 17
  • Date recipient will be notified regarding funding decisions: June 7
  • Deadline for recipients to collect funding: June 14
    If your conference takes place between June 14-30, you must contact the UNC Student Business Office to make advance arrangements to receive your reimbursements ahead of time due to the end of the fiscal year on June 30, 2019.
