Governor appoints Sinden to UNC Board of Trustees
January 19, 2017
Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper announced Wednesday the appointment of Janice Sinden to the University of Northern Colorado Board of Trustees.
Janice Sinden
Sinden, of Evergreen, is the president and CEO of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. She replaces Kelly Johnson, who resigned due to her job relocation, and will complete Johnson's remaining term through Dec. 31, 2018.
"As an alumna of the University of Northern Colorado, it is a tremendous honor to be appointed to the Board of Trustees by Governor Hickenlooper," Sinden said.
"UNC has had a profound impact on my personal and professional trajectory, and I look forward to supporting this institution in every way that I can to ensure that the students and faculty have every opportunity to succeed in this ever-changing global environment."
Sinden's experience includes serving as chief of staff for Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, executive director of the business alliance Colorado Concern, and manager of community relations for Sharp HealthCare in San Diego. She also co-founded the political and nonprofit consulting firm Pinnacle Public Affairs. While working for former U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard, she served as the state's lead for introducing federal legislation that passed in 2002 to designate Rocky Flat Environmental Technology Site as a National Wildlife Refuge.
Sinden, who is actively involved with numerous nonprofits, has been recognized by 5280 magazine as one of the 50 most influential people in Denver, by the Colorado Women's Foundation as one of the 25 most influential women in Colorado, by the Girl Scouts of Colorado as a Woman of Distinction, and by UNC's Department of Political Science and International Affairs as Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.
UNC's Board of Trustees consists of seven members appointed by the governor, a faculty member elected by peers and a student elected by peers. For more information about the board, visit its website. For more information on Boards and Commissions, click here.
