The University of Northern Colorado’s Monfort College of Business will kick off a yearlong celebration marking its 50th anniversary with a reception from 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at Garden Theater, southwest of Kepner Hall, 800 17th St.

The reception is open to campus and community and is free of charge. Light refreshments will be provided. RSVP by emailing alumni@unco.edu.

Other events throughout the 2018-19 academic year are also planned. See the calendar at http://mcb.unco.edu/50. The site also includes a place to share college memories and memorabilia such as photos.

Started as a school in 1968, it became a college in 1984. The college was renamed in 1999 in honor of cattleman, longtime Colorado statesman and benefactor Kenneth W. Monfort. Five years later, the college became the first business college to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s highest honor for quality and performance excellence. Today, the award-winning college is accredited by AACSB International, and its academic portfolio has grown to include the master’s of Accounting and online MBA programs. The college is also home to the East Colorado Small Business Development Center and UNC Bizhub Collaborative, an innovative business incubator.

“Over those 50 years, more than 12,000 students have graduated and gone on to be successful in all kinds of business endeavors, here in Colorado and in other parts of the U.S. as well as in variety of international locations,” said Paul M. Bobrowski, Ph.D., dean of the college.
