Students can connect to UNC's wireless network by choosing UNC-Student. If you are having problems connecting to the network, please choose from the list of devices below. 

  • Windows
    1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in taskbar on the bottom-right. If this icon is not visible, make sure to enable Wi-Fi in Control Panel.
    2. Click UNC-STUDENT in the list of wireless networks, then click Connect.
    3. When prompted for the security key/password/passphrase, enter UNCStudent (case sensitive).
    4. After your computer is connected to the network, open a web browser and go to any web page.
      • If you are not prompted with the User Registration page, try going to 138.86.60.99.
    5. Read the UNC Computing Acceptable Use Procedure, then click the Accept button.
    6. Enter your UNC email address and password.
    7. If your credentials are entered successfully, you will see a confirmation page.
    8. Within 1 minute, you should be fully connected to the network.
  • Mac
    1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the top-right, then click Turn Wi-Fi On if it is not already on.
    2. Click UNC-STUDENT in the list of wireless networks.
    3. When prompted for the security key/password/passphrase, enter UNCStudent (case sensitive).
    4. After your computer is connected to the network, open a web browser and go to any web page.
      • If you are not prompted with the User Registration page, try going to 138.86.60.99.
    5. Read the UNC Computing Acceptable Use Procedure, then click the Accept button.
    6. Enter your UNC email address and password.
    7. If your credentials are entered successfully, you will see a confirmation page.
    8. Within 1 minute, you should be fully connected to the network.
  • Android Device
    1. Turn on Airplane Mode. This is usually found in your basic settings or within an additional wireless settings menu. This ensures that the "User Registration" page will be displayed once you are connected to the wireless network.
    2. Go to your Settings menu, then find your Wireless or Wi-Fi options.
    3. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on, then tap UNC-STUDENT.
    4. Enter the network password (UNCStudent), then tap CONNECT.
    5. Ignore any notification that says "Wi-Fi has no Internet access".
    6. After your device is connected to the network, open the Chrome app and go to any web page.
      • If you are not prompted with the User Registration page, try going to 138.86.60.99.
    7. Read the UNC Computing Acceptable Use Procedure, then tap the Accept button.
    8. Enter your UNC email address and password.
    9. If your credentials are entered successfully, you will see a confirmation page.
    10. Within 1 minute, you will see "Connected" below the network name.
    11. Turn off Airplane Mode to reconnect to your mobile data.
  • Apple Device
    1. Tap the Settings icon.
    2. Turn on Airplane Mode. This ensures that the "User Registration" page will be displayed once you are connected to the wireless network.
    3. Tap Wi-Fi.
    4. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on, then tap UNC-STUDENT.
    5. Enter the network password (UNCStudent), then tap Join.
    6. After your device is connected to the network, open the Safari app and go to any web page.
      • If you are not prompted with the User Registration page, try going to 138.86.60.99.
    7. Read the UNC Computing Acceptable Use Procedure, then tap the Accept button.
    8. Enter your UNC email address and password.
    9. If your credentials are entered successfully, you will see a confirmation page.
    10. Within 1 minute, you will see that you are fully connected.
    11. Turn off Airplane Mode to reconnect to your mobile data.
