You clicked on a link from a phishing email

This sort of phishing campaign can be run by a fairly unsophisticated attacker with a gmail account and a web site.  This attack would be used to redirect you to a fake login page or simply bring you to a site loaded with malware and either try to trick you into downloading something or try to exploit your browser into running malicious code.

Key defenses:

  • Checking the source of the email.  All official communications will come from a real @unco.edu account.
  • Spotting the message at the bottom which indicates that the message originated outside of UNC and caution should be taken.
