The Center for Career Readiness aims for all UNC Students to be career ready and empowered to pursue meaningful work by graduation. Advisors contribute to that vision when we help students feel confident and comfortable engaging with Career Readiness and their educational/career goals.
Action Items for Advisors
-
Tell students about Center for Career Readiness Services during appointments. Even first year students can benefit from early exploration and exposure to career resources. You can open the Career Readiness Info Folder for reference.
-
Attend the Center for Career Readiness Events when able to build knowledge of post-college environments and expectations. You can create a Handshake account to register and view events and listings—you should fill out your profile based on your student advisee population to receive relevant updates.
- Save the Find Your Path information to reference during student appointments when career discussions come up. You can show them What Can I Do With This Major and incorporate the 4-Year Career Timeline into your conversations.
All advisors should review the What Can I Do with Major for all their major, minor, and related major areas to have that context and information ready for students.
Services and Events
Students can find exploratory activities with assessments, skill development, career outlook and more to decide on academic program options. After graduation, they have 3 years of full service and benefits! All alumni have access to attend events and stay in touch through Handshake too.
