Welcome to U-Engage!

Undergraduate Academic Engagement

Undergraduate Academic Engagement programs support students and faculty across all five academic colleges and University Libraries to enrich the academic experience at UNC. Our U-Engage programs and offices include all of the following areas:

Honors Program

The University Honors Program is designed to foster outstanding students by providing a small community of intellectually-challenging peers with extra faculty attention and the tools to learn how to think critically and make connections between disciplines and then how to dive deep into today’s problems, issues and cutting edge research challenges.

UNC Honors Program is now accepting applications for Fall admission.

Interdisciplinary Studies: Student Designed Major

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies enables undergraduate students to pursue an interdisciplinary theme of study they design in substitution for the traditional major. Each student pursuing this major works with two faculty advisors who assist in constructing a program of study that will meet the student’s objectives. This program affords students the opportunity to pursue topics of study tailored to meet their individual interests and needs.

Leadership Studies Minor

The Leadership Studies minor at UNC provides an opportunity for all UNC undergraduates to engage in the academic study and ethical practice of leadership. We believe that collaborative, effective leadership is foundational for strong communities, and we are proud of our student and alumni record of service to others. The Leadership Studies minor curriculum fosters leadership development through both theory and experiential learning. We offer an innovative, intellectually rigorous curriculum designed to address multiple facets of what it means to be a leader. We hope you will consider joining our active community of leader-scholars and working with us to generate positive change in local and global communities.

McNair Scholars Research Program

The Ronald E. McNair Scholars Research Program is a federal TRIO program designed to provide undergraduate students with effective preparation for graduate-level study through research and scholarly activities, summer internships, seminars and workshops, mentoring, and assistance with graduate school admission processes. McNair scholars are either first-generation college students with financial need or members of a group traditionally underrepresented in graduate education and have demonstrated strong academic potential.

National Scholarships and Fellowships

Undergraduate Academic Engagement staff will assist students with inquiries regarding nationally competitive scholarship, fellowship and summer research experience opportunities.  Some scholarships have specific internal deadlines, since in many cases the University must recommend the student to the scholarship organization, and the more competitive scholarships may limit the number of students any one institution may forward for consideration.  Contact U-Engage if you are interested in pursuing any national scholarship or fellowship opportunity.  A list of many of these opportunities is available on the U-Engage Scholarships page.

Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Works (OUR)

University of Northern Colorado OUR supports and develops undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing research or creative works outside of the traditional class and semester boundaries. The office provides funding, training, support, mentorship, recognition, awards, campus and national conference presentation and performance opportunities.

Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC)

UNC offers two ROTC programs in partnership with Colorado State University Fort Collins.

Army ROTC provides leadership training to students from any major who are motivated to become officers in the Army. Student who complete the ROTC program are commissioned into the Army, Army Reserve Corps, or Army National Guard. Students also earn a minor in Military Sciences as they proceed through the Army ROTC.

UNC Students in the Air Force ROTC detachment have the option of pursuing a minor in Aerospace Studies. Air Force ROTC develops leaders through, not only classes, but also hands-on management experience and valuable leadership-building exercises. While pursing any academic degree, ROTC candidates are provided numerous opportunities to explore the multitude of career fields available in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force.

See for yourself how these programs can help you get the most out of your University of Northern Colorado experience.
