October 29, 2019

Dr. Martin Carcasson was the keynote speaker at the 2019 Community Engaged Scholars Symposium. Dr. Carcasson is a professor in the Communication Studies Department of Colorado State University, and the founder and director of the CSU Center for Public Deliberations (CPD).

Dr. Carcasson presented on Leadership and Ethics in Polarized Times: Adopting a Wicked Problems Mindset to Elevate Conversations and Transform Communities. His presentation provided an alternative view for looking at broader democratic values through the wicked problems lens. Audience members were led through a process to help them recognize shared values and more productively deliberate about value differences.

The Office of Academic Community Engagement was thrilled to have Dr. Carcasson on campus to present on such an interesting, important, and relevant topic. Furthermore, we would like to thank the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative for sponsoring Dr. Carcasson's visit to UNC.
