Nottingham Field Building Reopens
August 20, 2018
The west building at Nottingham Field has reopened after Facilities Management completed cleanup of the building’s interior. The building is primarily used by Athletics and flanks the west bleachers of the stadium, which is home of the Bears’ football, and track and field teams.
UNC notified the health department in July when an employee discovered a bat in the center portion of the building, which contains the High Plains Room, press box and coaches areas. After the health department tested and confirmed the bat had rabies, the university closed the building July 11 and notified campus.
Only a limited number of campus community members have access to the secure building, which is locked daily and requires a university-issued key or key card to enter. The track and field remained open during the closure for student-athletes. No events had been scheduled in the facility in the days leading up to the closure.
According to the health department, rabies exposure in animals has been high in Weld County this year, and the department advises keeping a distance from and avoiding contact with wild animals.
