Apply to UNC for Free Oct. 18-20

October 13, 2022

The University of Northern Colorado is waiving application fees for undergraduate applicants during Colorado’s fifth annual Free Application Day$, Oct. 18-20, 2022. While the statewide initiative applies to Colorado residents only, the fee waiver at UNC is extended to all first-time freshmen, transfer students, returning students and applicants seeking a second bachelor’s degree.

“If you’re interested in attending UNC, there’s no better time to apply, but don’t wait,” said Erika Pepmeyer, UNC’s director of Admissions. “Start filing out your application now using FREEAPPDAYCO so you can submit it during the three-day period.”

Colorado Free App Day$ is a statewide initiative from the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE), in partnership with Colorado colleges and universities. It was designed to inspire more Coloradans to continue their education so there are more people across the state who enter the workforce with a degree or competitive skills. According to CDHE, just over half of the state’s 2020 high school graduates went on to a college, university or certificate program, while nearly 75% of Colorado jobs require a postsecondary credential.

Also occurring during Free Application Day$ is UNC’s ¡Adelante! on Oct. 18. This free community event is a new initiative at UNC, delivered in both English and Spanish. It is designed to support Hispanic and/or Latinx-identifying students and their families by providing information on topics such as factors to consider when searching for a college, how to apply for admission and financial aid and how to pay for college. Everyone is welcome at the event, regardless of whether they are interested in attending UNC or another institution or even if they are still uncertain about attending college.

“Our goal for ¡Adelante! is to serve as a resource for students and families across the region who have questions about the college admissions and financial aid process,” Pepmeyer said. “A college education is something that everyone should have access to and know how they can take advantage of this type of transformative opportunity. UNC created this event to better support those who see a college degree as part of their future but may not know how to reach that goal, why it is important or what questions to ask.”

Pepmeyer went on to say that the combination of Free App Day$ and ¡Adelante! provides an opportunity for students thinking about college to take that next step with confidence.

“Over 40% of our undergraduate population are the first in their families to attend college, so we know that many of them experienced a level of uncertainty during the college process,” Pepmeyer said. “We want to do everything we can to remove the barriers that students face in accessing higher education and support them on their path to earning a college degree.”

¡Adelante! will be held Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at UNC’s Campus Commons (1051 22nd St., Greeley). Registration for the event is required. Parking and dinner are free. All families and community members are welcome.
