Has held positions as a journalist for Colorado newspapers, staff member of former U.S. Sen. Gary Hart, and was owner of a bed and breakfast in Fort Collins. Doctoral dissertation related to agricultural development and nutrition in Africa. Climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in 1971.
