Information on the Federal Government Shutdown

At this stage, the federal government shutdown is having minimal impact on UNC's operations. GI Bill benefits and payments, federal grant reporting and funding, employment verification, and student admissions that involve immigration checks (such as prospective international students) are continuing. The Office of Global Engagement Passport Office continues to accept U.S. Passport applications, which are being processed by the State Department as normal. Because UNC’s Office of Human Resources verifies employment eligibility in multiple ways, the unavailability of the federal E-Verify web-based system during the shutdown isn’t delaying the hiring process. If available, information provided by federal agencies is guiding how UNC deals with the shutdown. For most students, there won’t be an impact of financial aid processing or payments. For those who might be impacted, UNC Office of Financial Aid will be working individually with students and families as needed.
