UNC, CSU Schedule Exhibition to Benefit Hurricane Relief

The University of Northern Colorado men's basketball team added an extra exhibition game to its 2017-18 schedule in efforts to help with hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. The Bears will make the short trip over to Fort Collins to play the Colorado State Rams at 5 p.m.  Sunday, Nov. 5.

The proceeds from the game will go to hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. Former Colorado State guard and current Dallas Maverick Gian Clavell hails from the island.

In light of the tragedies across the United States and Puerto Rico, the NCAA has granted teams the ability to apply for a waiver for an additional exhibition game to be played for charities helping with hurricane relief efforts. CSU applied and has been granted the waiver and chose Unidos por Puerto Rico in support of the home country of Clavell, a CSU graduate that earned Mountain West Player of the Year honors for the Rams last season.

"Gian Clavell is someone I actually know pretty well from my days at Boise State when I recruited him. The game is a great event for the community to support both the Bears and the Rams and help those communities in need," head coach Jeff Linder said. "We are looking forward to playing this game and hope both fans from Greeley and Fort Collins can come out and raise money for a great cause."

This game also gives the Bears the chance to play against a Division I opponent and not have to travel far to play the game. "The game is a great cause to help those in need and also gives us a chance to play another quality opponent that will help show us where we are at before we go play the University of Colorado on November 10th," Linder said.

All seats, other than courtside, are general admission and will be $5 each, with all proceeds from the ticket sales going to the charity. In addition, a portion of all concessions proceeds will be going to the charity donation as well. Those who cannot attend can donate directly at https://www.unidosporpuertorico.com/en/. Tickets for the game can be purchased online through www.CSURams.com/tickets with a special link in the coming days.

The 2017-18 season for Northern Colorado basketball begins on November 2 when they host Johnson & Wales University in an exhibition game at 7 pm inside Bank of Colorado Arena.
The regular season tips off on November 10 in Boulder when the Bears take on the Buffs. UNC's home-opener is set for November 13 when UC Davis comes to Greeley.
