SNAP Helps Students Access Nutritious Food

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is part of a federal nutrition program to help low-income households purchase food. It provides a monthly benefit that helps families and individuals buy the food they need for good health. SNAP provides monthly supplemental income for food purchases for about 1 in 10 Coloradoans, including hard-working college students, families, children,  seniors, veterans and those with disabilities.

Many college students qualify for SNAP but never apply. Visit this Hunger Free Colorado webpage to learn more about SNAP eligibility for college students.

Case managers in the Office of Student Outreach and Support are available  to guide students with assessing their SNAP eligibility and to support students in making their SNAP application. For students who would like support exploring SNAP eligibility or applying to SNAP, e-mail sos@unco.edu. It’s that easy.

Other resources for students needing food include the UNC Bear Pantry as well as the Weld Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry, which will be returning to UNC on Tuesday, April 9, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the corner of C lot.
