Nov. 13-17 is Geography Awareness Week, and the Geography Department is partnering with groups across campus for a series of climate, environmental and geographical (GIS) events:

    Monday, Nov. 13

    • UNC Student Map Gallery, 3-5 p.m., in the upstairs classroom at the LINC Library (501 8th Ave, Greeley, CO 80631).
      • Students in GEOG 307, GEOG 285 and GEOG 507 will be presenting their work during an open house style map gallery.
    • GIS Professionals Meet Up Mappy Hour, 5:30 - 7 p.m., at WeldWerks Brewery (508 8th Ave, Greeley, CO).
      • After the map gallery, the event will move over to WeldWerks for a gathering of all of our favorite GIS folks. This is a great way to meet alumni and other GIS professionals in the region and network for career and professional development opportunities.

    Tuesday Nov. 14

    • Climate Conversations Popup at the LINC Library (501 8th Ave, Greeley, CO 80631) from 2-5:30 p.m. Join COOLER team member and UNC Geography professor Karen Barton, Ph.D., for a hands-on workshop and sustainability discussion with support from local librarian and artist Sue Safarik. There will be wool to create small earths using a method called “felting” while discussing local sustainability, environmental and climate considerations. Materials and instructions will be supplied, so no prior experience is needed.
      • There will also be opportunity to learn more about how to apply for Fulbright fellowships and scholarships to conduct research, pursue graduate studies or teach English in locations all over the world. Individuals can also contribute to a community climate time capsule, which is a participatory audio project with Karen Barton and UNC student Sara Samaniego.
      • Food and drinks will be provided.
