• Winner of the 2024 Graduate Outstanding Literary Essay Award for essayy "Sui Sin Far's Mrs. Spring Fragrance as Heterotopia: The effects of Narrative Plentitude as Seen Through 'The smuggling of Tie Co' and 'Tian Shan's Kindred Spirit'"

Professional/Academic Experience

Sarah Carter is a writing instructor with a Master of Arts in English Literature and a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing. She served as a composition instructor in the Graduate Teaching Assistant program at CSU during my M.A. In addition, I worked for two years as a community worker for the state of Illinois' Financial Aid agency, ISAC. I bring this interdisciplinary background to my writing classroom to consider the whole student and the power dynamics inherent in higher education and writing. 

Research/Areas of Interest

Scholarly interests include the interplay of gender, race, sexuality, and happiness in 20th- and 21st century literature.
