UNC Vaccination Requirement
On April 27, Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Colorado Department of Higher Education Executive Director Angie Paccione issued a statement of support for COVID-19 vaccination requirements, signaling their expectation that colleges and universities issue mandates to ensure a full and healthy college experience is possible in the fall. Following this announcement and in collaboration with several other institutions of higher education across Colorado, the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) is announcing it will require all students, faculty and staff to be vaccinated for COVID-19 before the start of the Fall 2021 semester, which begins August 23. The requirement is contingent upon one or more of the vaccines receiving full approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as well as adequate availability of the fully approved vaccines. Reason for Policy
Vaccines are a proven and effective tool in combating the spread of communicable diseases
and their administration saves countless lives annually. The health and safety of
our students, faculty, and staff is the university’s highest priority. A broadly vaccinated
university community is key to providing a safe and healthy environment – ensuring
UNC’s return to a full schedule of in-person courses and restoring activities and
events that will allow students to enjoy experiential learning, campus life, and community
engagement opportunities this fall.
COVID-19 vaccines have been proven to be highly effective at preventing moderate, severe, and critical illness, hospitalization, and death. The vaccines available to prevent COVID-19 infection are also being proven safe every day, as tens of millions of Americans have already received them. It is expected that the vaccines available in the United States will receive full authorization from the Food and Drug Administration in the coming weeks and months.
The Student Portal and Faculty and Staff COVID-19 Vaccination Verification Portals are now live. Visit the appropriate pages below to learn more about the vaccine requirement policy and ways in which to submit you information and/or request an exemption.
