Teacher Candidates


 

General Teacher Candidate Information

  • UNC teacher candidates who cannot follow modified field experience requirements due to personal or health concerns OR who prefer to postpone their field experience can choose to delay their field experience.

    • Meet with your program coordinator/advisor for alternate semester planning.

    • Verify potential financial impacts of delay.

  • Appropriate program testing (i.e. Praxis) requirements including the due dates to take/pass the test remain in effect.

    • ETS now offers most content Praxis exams in an ‘at home’ format.

  • UNC teacher candidates will abide by all policies/guidance of their host school, including health requirements such as masks, temperature checks, etc.

  • UNC teacher candidates are expected to fulfill the time requirements of their specific field experience whether face to face or virtually. Consult your program coordinator for specific details.

    • Pre Student Teaching experiences: 160-240 hours, depending on program

    • Student Teaching: 640 hours, some programs vary


 

Fall 2020 Field Experience Information

  • UNC teacher candidates should participate fully in supporting their mentor teacher & students using whatever learning format is prescribed by their host school.

    • Face to face instruction

    • Virtual instruction

    • Combination of face to face and virtual instruction

  • UNC teacher candidates will track the method used for field based instruction/work using Live Text or other program-designated system.

    • Example:

  • UNC student teachers should plan their Capstone/Work Sample units for both face to face and virtual delivery in the event of host school closure.

  • UNC teacher candidates will maintain regular contact with their mentor teacher and UNC supervisor.
