Nearly 400 alumni, donors, students, parents, and staff came to Coors Field to show their Bear pride last Sunday. Always a fan favorite, UNC Day at the Rockies is among the Alumni Association’s most popular annual events.

Before the game, new UNC President Andy Feinstein attended the Alumni Association’s picnic on club level. “Hi, I’m Andy,” he smiled as he held out his hand to greet everyone before they picked up their name tags for the picnic.

"What an awesome day we had with you all. Our son is so excited to move in, and we love our UNC hats!" -Stephanie Pomponio '93

Shortly before the first pitch, President Feinstein took to the field for a pregame ceremony in recognition of UNC Day. He was joined on the field by his wife Kerry Feinstein and daughter Rachel Feinstein, Alumni Board Chair Jill Trotter ’87 and her husband Mike Trotter ‘89, Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations Lyndsey Crum ’05, and Director of Admissions Sean Broghammer ’17. Together the group welcomed all the Bears in attendance to Coors Field.

I always look forward to the Rockies alumni event and reconnecting with people, some of whom I haven't seen in a year. When alumni are engaged and supporting UNC through events such as this, committing time and personal resources, then the university can truly thrive. -Jill Trotter '87

The overcast skies gave way to gentle rain when the game started, and the grounds crew diligently spread sand on the infield between every inning. Fans who managed to stick it out were treated to a dramatic win by the Rockies. With the game tied at 3, Trevor Story hit the first walk off home run of his career to lead off the ninth inning.

Every year the UNC Alumni Association’s UNC Day at the Rockies grows, and with the growing crowd comes additional opportunities to get involved. In 2017 the Alumni Association worked with the Rockies to include a custom hat with each ticket. This year demand grew enough to expand beyond the traditional catered event, and tickets with hats were available to alumni fans in the upper level.

Next, President Feinstein will meet Bears across the state August 27-30 during the Colorado Road Show. Reserve your spot today to meet President Feinstein.
