A career is a continuous journey, and even the most successful alumni strive to improve their own by building their networks and sharpening their skills. Your career after UNC can take you anywhere, and wherever you go, the UNC Bear Network will be at your side for guidance and support.

As you prepare to take that next step in your career, your UNC Alumni Association and our career coaches are primed to help you connect to your network of fellow UNC Bears, gain insight from industry experts, access alumni-only career events, and gain inspiration from online resources that can help you take your career further.

Alumnus John Greathouse '02 decided to attend the spring Career Assessment event in Denver because he was looking for guidance in a career or job change. He had been working in the same job for more than 10 years, and felt the event might help point him in the right direction.

“I saw that I’m not alone in seeking a career change, and gained new connections to the staff that hosted the event,” shared Greathouse after attending the event. “I realized that through UNC I had an untapped resource for a new job search.

“The Strengths Finder exercise helped bolster some confidence that I had lost over the years, and since attending I have worked with a UNC career coach to revise my resume and cover letter. I wouldn't have known about this kind of assistance without attending the event.”

Recent graduate Jasmine Jones '17 chose to attend the Bear Network Live online career chat because she was having a difficult time launching her career in the Denver area.

After attending, Jones said “I gained a new outlook by reflecting my experiences with those of other graduates. I was always taught to use my resources, and as a UNC alumna, I realized that some of the resources and programs offered by UNC’s Alumni Relations and Center for Career Readiness offices require very little time to help me develop professionally.”

She has since secured a position and has been back to campus to offer advice and insight to current students.

That is the power of the Bear Network. Providing support and access to resources and connections, then, when able, paying it forward to support current students and fellow alumni. And because the Bear Network is located throughout the state and country, you can expect to find alumni career and professional development resources on campus, online and onsite in your community.

One upcoming onsite resource is the HireDenver Colorado Alumni employment fair on June 14.

“The power of attending an event like this is the opportunity it presents. You can map out your path and connect with the employers that interest you most first, then you can explore. There are more than 100 employers from various industries present, and it’s completely free!” shares alumna and UNC career counselor Elizabeth Mahoney ’05.

Your fellow UNC Bears have developed professionally by taking advantage of the UNC Bear Network programs and resources. So what’s stopping you? Register for an upcoming event today.
