Would you like to share more about your UNC experience with high school students who’ve been admitted to UNC and are trying to make their college decision? A new initiative called Bear-to-Bear gives alumni and the campus community a chance to reach out to prospective students to tell them about UNC, share thoughts on careers, and help them get a feel for life as a Bear.

Bear-to-Bear invites alumni, faculty and staff to write personal notes to admitted students to welcome them to UNC and Bear Country. Volunteers will receive a Bear-to-Bear packet that contains a list of admitted students, cards and preaddressed and stamped envelopes with an Admissions return address.

It’s part of UNC’s efforts to provide students with personalized information that can help them make their college decision.

“Families and students really do care about the outcomes of students who were here. They want to know about your UNC experience, how you progressed in your career after UNC and how UNC prepared you for the outside world,” says UNC Director of Admissions Dave Fedorchak, Ed.D.

Providing students with personal touchstones on their admissions journey is even more important after the past two years for students who’ve spent much of their high school experience learning remotely. With that in mind, the admissions team has been working to provide personalized information that matches a prospective student’s interests, to help them connect with admissions counselors and the UNC community, and to introduce them to UNC’s commitment to providing a students-first experience that leads to success in college and beyond.

"Our alumni – whether participating as experts on career panels or giving a new Bear a start on a career – have been committed to giving back to UNC students generously in so many ways,” said Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations Lyndsey Crum ‘05. “UNC is a community of caring alumni, faculty and staff and the Bear-to-Bear project is an opportunity to share that sense of caring and community with prospective students. It’s a great way to introduce them to life as a Bear!”
