How to Apply 

GOAL application for the 2025-2026 year is open. Our application for 2025-2026 will close on January 31, 2025.

  6. Additional materials to be emailed or sent through physical mail:
    • Transcripts - Unofficial or Official Transcripts are acceptable
    • Psychoeducational Evaluation and/or Plan

Admission Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between 18 to 25 years of age  by August 1 of the academic year in which applicants are applying 
  • Are required to be their own legal guardian
  • Exhibit strong desire to continue an academic education, career development, social development, and independent living instruction at the University of Northern Colorado
  • Have a cognitive and/or developmental disability that interferes with academic performance and social development according to the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
  • Must have been (or is presently) eligible for special education under The Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA)
  • Have sufficient emotional and independent living skills necessary to participate in coursework and campus life:
    • Be able to remain unsupervised for longer periods of time
    • Be able to independently manage personal care responsibilities (hygiene & grooming)
    • Demonstrate the ability to accept responsibility for their actions and maintain respect for themselves and others
    • No history of disruptive or challenging behaviors
  • Be able to perform at a functional academic level with or without assistive technology
    • Able to access text and read materials related to coursework with accommodations and modifications
    • Able to write complete sentences and multi-paragraph coursework with accommodations and modifications
    • Able to complete simple math problems specifically related to money with accommodations and modifications
    • Able to attend traditional UNC courses without in-class support using accommodations and modifications
  • Is independent in handling their own medication, specialized dietary and/or medical needs
      • Staff is not available to manage/administer medications
      • Staff does not take responsibility for specialized diets or medical needs
  • Participate in an interview involving informal academic and communication assessments with and without support from family/support persons
