Dear UNC Community,
Much has changed since the spring semester - we have had to rethink how we engage as members of the UNC community in almost every aspect. As we progress through the semester, I want to encourage you again to think about how the choices you make can uplift each other and support the health and well-being of every Bear and those closest to them.
Here we are with changing weather, devastating fires, midterms, an election, and Halloween upon us. While we may be accustomed to vibrant fall semesters full of fun celebrations and congregating with friends, this year is challenging in ways we have not experienced before.
I want to take this time to provide a reminder of opportunities we have to look out for each other:
- Participate in alternative Halloween activities. If you do choose to socialize, do so in healthy ways. Help slow the spread of COVID by wearing a mask (not just the costume kind), limiting gathering size, social distancing and adhering to UNC policies and up-to-date public health guidance.
- If you need to file a report on an incident or share a concern, visit the Dean of Students website. UNC encourages all Bears to report behaviors that put the health and safety of our community at risk. The Dean of Students Office has been receiving and will continue to address these concerns through the student conduct process.
- If you or another Bear needs food, temporary housing, or other resources, UNC is offering support to those in our community who have been displaced or evacuated from their homes due to fires in the area.
- Don’t forget to make a plan to vote! You can drop off your completed ballot at a 24/7 Secure Drop Box at the University Center or drop off your ballot BEFORE or ON Election Day at the Campus Commons. Vote early just in case you have to quarantine or something else comes up!
I know and understand that 2020 has presented us with unforeseen challenges and uncertainty. Our network of support services on campus continues to evolve to better meet your needs this academic year. Be safe (and thoughtful) this Halloween, help stop the spread of COVID, and take care of each other out there!
