During my time as a graduate assistant at Iowa State University, I held positions with both Destination Iowa State, a large, three-day Welcome Week program that supported new freshman and transfer students’ social, academic, and financial transition to college, and New Student Orientation (working with both freshman and transfer student programs). Both positions offered me the opportunity to supervise student leaders and collaborate with campus partners to create programming that aided in the successful transition of new college students and their support teams.
While at the University of Iowa, I held positions with orientation, housing, admissions, tutoring, and athletics that served as a foundation for wanting to help students successfully transition to the university setting and achieve their academic and personal goals.
Other experiences that have helped shape my perspectives and passion for supporting college students include continued involvement with the Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention (NODA), studying abroad in Pondicherry, India, recruiting and supporting first-generation college students from rural communities, practicum experiences that supported exploring and undecided students, and pursuing a minor in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies.
