Frequently Asked Questions
- What if I need to get a video in class captioned for a Student?
- How could one of my students get accommodations?
If students inquire about getting accommodations, please refer them to our website or have them stop into the office. To learn more about the accommodation process, please look at our Getting Started Page.
- I’ve received an accommodation letter stating that a student is eligible for notetaking
services. What are my responsibilities with coordinating this accommodation?
In order to assist with university ADA compliance, it is the professor’s responsibility to request peer notetakers for their courses after receiving a student’s accommodation letter with Notetaking Services listed in their eligibilities. The following script is provided on the accommodation letter to assist you in requesting a peer notetaker. Please read this statement, out loud, to your class:
“This class requires a student to take notes each class period. The notetaker selected will receive either $45 in Bear Bucks, UNC apparel, or a certificate for 45 service hours. The notetaker must have a GPA of a 3.0 or higher. Notetakers can sign up online through DRC Online. Please see me if you are interested in volunteering as the peer notetaker.”
It is also recommended that you post or email it to students on Canvas. Once a student volunteers, you should direct them to DRC via email at DRCTechnology@unco.edu or by phone at 970-351-2289.
If you have any questions about the note taking process or procedures, please contact DRCTechnology@unco.edu.

Instructors may feel that it is inappropriate to record certain class discussions. You are approved to record lectures, but not necessarily discussions in which other students may reveal personal information or self-disclosure. If necessary, you or your instructor may ask DRC to help make this distinction.
