IRB -Transitioning from IRBNet to Streamlyne - Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I access and login to Streamlyne?

You can access Streamlyne by going to the following web address: research.unco.streamlyne.org.  Streamlyne has been integrated with single sign-on (SSO), so you will be logged in automatically if you are on campus. Otherwise, you will be requested to enter your UNC email and network password.

**Students you must use your @bears.unco.edu email address and password when logging in.

  • What training materials are available?

On the Streamlyne IRB page, you will find the UNC Streamlyne IRB User Manual for researchers.  We have also hosted a CETL meeting via Zoom that covered how to initiate and submit a new protocol.  These sessions were recorded and you can access them on the CETL webpage.

  • Can I still use IRBNet?

IRBNet can no longer be used to submit new projects and modification requests, however, you will continue to have access to your archived materials.

  • What will happen to my projects in IRBNet?

All projects submitted through IRBNet will continue to live in IRBNet as archival documents.  You will always have access to your archived data by continuing to login to IRBNet with your username and password.

  • What if I need to submit a modification for a study approved in IRBNet?

We are continuing to work with IM&T to access the final IRBNet data file that was sent to us so we can transition all current projects to Streamlyne.  If your study is Exempt and has not yet been uploaded into Streamlyne, please email your modification request, along with your IRBNet # to chris.saxton@unco.edu.

If your study is Expedited or Full Board and has not yet been uploaded into Streamlyne, please reach out to Nicole Morse for further guidance.

  • Do I still need a coversheet?

No.  All information that was previously on the Coversheet will now be part of the IRB protocol in Streamlyne.

  • Do I still need to write a narrative for my Streamlyne application?

I'm happy to tell you that you no longer need to write a narrative!  Yay!  We have developed questionnaires as part of the new protocol application.  You will just need to answer the questions in the questionnaire now.

  • What documents do I need to upload?
In addition to completing the Questionnaire within Streamlyne, you will also attach all supporting materials.  This includes items such as your consent forms, survey or interview questions, recruiting materials, etc.  A list of necessary items can be found in the Questionnaire section.
  • As a student researcher, does my advisor still need to sign off on my protocol?

Yes, a research advisor is still required on all student research projects.  When you initiate your protocol, you will add your advisor to the personnel section.  By selecting their Affiliation Type as Faculty Advisor, your protocol will automatically be routed to your advisor for approval once you submit it.  After your advisor has approved your protocol, it will be routed to the IRB administrator for processing.

  • I'm having trouble logging in.  What do I do?

If you've forgotten your UNC password or it has expired, please contact IM&T to reset your network password.

If you've received an error stating that your user record cannot be found, this is likely the result of 1 of 2 things:

    (1) You are a student and have tried to login with your first.last credentials.  For single sign-on, only student credentials, not student employee credentials, are communicated between Banner and Streamlyne.  Therefore you will only be able to access Streamlyne by logging in with your @bears.unco.edu email address and password.

    (2) The following specific groups of individuals were automatically added as users to Streamlyne: all college level employees (faculty and staff), librarians, PhD students, Master students with a thesis option, and all McNair undergraduate students.  If your affiliation is outside of these categories, you will need to be added by opting in.  Please complete the Opt-in request form or contact Chris Saxton at chris.saxton@unco.edu.
