About Chief Carmichael

Aaron Carmichael began his career in law enforcement with the Arvada Police Department in 2004.  Aaron has always lived in Greeley, so when the opportunity arose to join the Greeley Police Department, he did so in 2005.  During his time with GPD, Aaron spent time in Patrol and was assigned as a detective to the Weld County Drug Task Force.  After promoting to Patrol Sergeant in 2013, Aaron returned to Investigations in 2015 as the Property Crimes Detective Sergeant.  While investigations, Aaron supervised the investigation of all crime types including homicides and was a Team Leader for the 19th Judicial District’s Critical Incident Response Team.  In 2018, Aaron was promoted to Commander and served both in Patrol and in Special Operations.  The Special Operations Section was responsible for community policing, including neighborhood outreach and school resource officers.  Aaron was also responsible for the security operations planning for the annual Greeley Stampede.

As a police leader, Aaron believes that while the motto ‘Protect and Serve’ does generally describe the role of a law enforcement officer, it’s the service portion that Aaron is truly passionate about in aspiring for police officers to be servant leaders.  Aaron focuses on making connections and building genuine relationships and he desires that the men and women of the University of Northern Colorado Police Department does the same with everyone they encounter.

“When a crisis occurs, we will be there to protect.  However, we want to be more than just a person in a uniform you happen to see drive by.  UNCPD officers are working to become a valued members and resources for your academic journey.  Our officers are human beings just like you.  We each have families and in many cases, have traveled the college path.  Personally, I had a non-traditional college journey and it took me a while after graduation to find my niche.  Police officers do enforce laws but we can be so much more than that.  We want to be your community partner and are happy to serve in any way we can.” – Chief Aaron Carmichael

Aaron has a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, Class #466.  Aaron and his wife, Shari, live in Greeley.  Whenever Aaron has time in his schedule, you will find him on the campus disc golf course.
