First-generation college students

Congratulations! You have the honor of being a first-generation student, defined as neither of your parents having obtained a four-year college degree. By choosing the college path, you are taking on the unique responsibility of being the first in your family to earn a bachelor’s degree and we at UNC could not be more excited. And you’re not alone! 46% of incoming first-year students identify as first-generation.

With that said, we are pleased to invite you and members of your support system to our I’m First Workshop, a program dedicated to your commitment as a first-generation college student. You'll get to meet other first-gen students, staff, and faculty and learn about their experiences! We hope you can join us in celebrating this accomplishment as UNC is devoted to providing you with information necessary for a successful transition into college life.
