Biography

Hello! My name is Emmanuel Macias-Monarrez but I go by Manny. I am originally from Chihuahua, Mexico but I have lived in Colorado for almost 20 years and I consider this beautiful state my home. I began my educational journey at Front Range Community College in Fort Collins, Colorado and earned my B.A. in Counseling Psychology from Colorado Mesa University in 2018. Currently I am working towards my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and hope to graduate in the Spring of 2022. I love to read, cook, play with my puppy and spend as much time outdoors as possible. My favorite place in the world is Coors Field, home of the Rockies, because there is no better place to watch a baseball game with friends and family.

As an immigrant, first-generation student, and non-native English speaker I know first hand how difficult it can be to navigate the academic world, therefore, I do my best to help other students reach their academic and professional goals. I thoroughly enjoy working one-on-one with students and I am grateful to have the opportunity to help others in this program.

As a graduate assistant in the McNair Scholars Program I help students with their writing assignments as well as provide moral support when needed. I am also involved in event planning and work to provide fun and relaxing opportunities for student to engage in. Lastly, I help develop and maintain effective communication channels between the McNair Scholars Program and the rest of the UNC community.
