The keynote speaker for the 5th SCENARIO Forum Symposium on Performative Pedagogy was Dr. Susanne Even, an internationally prominent drama pedagogy scholar and a passionate teacher educator who trains and mentors the associate instructors in the department of Germanic Studies at Indiana University. She is also active in the trainer network of the Goethe Institute Chicago and has conducted teacher training workshops at universities and Goethe Institutes in Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, and the United States. Her keynote talk, which was also the first presentation in the 2018 Schulze Speaker Series: “Performative Pedagogy – Crossroads of the Arts, Education, and Foreign Languages” fuses together interdisciplinary fields of higher education, showing how drama enhances learning in a myriad of classroom situations.

The other symposium talks and workshops focused on specific ways performance can be used to enhance language learning with plays, music, and improv theatre activities. The 5th SCENARIO Forum Symposium on Performative Pedagogy was only the second of its kind held in the United States, and it represented the broadening readership and scope of SCENARIO journal and its goal in inspiring creativity and improvisation in the foreign language classroom.
