Getting started on your Education Abroad journey

UNC offers over a hundred programs in over 60 countries. Individual interests and academic needs mean picking a program will be different for each student. If you're considering an international experience, follow these steps to get started in the process:

Learn More

Attend an informational event or come by our office to talk with members of our team.

Determine Your Timeline

Use the  Education Abroad Checklist & Timeline for a idea of where you should be in the process of preparing.

Define your Goals

What do you want to achieve while you are abroad?Think about academics, costs, language and more!

Research Programs

UNC offers over 100 programs, do some research and talk with alumni and international students to learn more!

Meet with Your Academic Advisor

Discuss how your proposed study abroad coursework will fit in with your degree requirements. Make a plan for graduation that includes study abroad.

Meet with your Education Abroad Advisor

Once you've narrowed down your program options, meet with your advisor in the Education Abroad Office to plan and discuss next steps.

Build Budget

Work with your study abroad advisor and the Office of Financial Aid to determine your preliminary budget for your experience.

Apply

Submit application and all supporting documents by the deadlines.
