Scholarship Information

To be considered for UNC scholarships, the following requirements must be met:

UNC Requirements

  • Students must be admitted to UNC in order to be considered for scholarships.  Students should apply for admission to UNC before February 1st to ensure adequate processing time before the scholarship application deadline of March 1st.
  • Students must complete the Universal Scholarship Application through the Financial Aid Office by March 1st.
  • Register with Disability Resource Center.

Outside Scholarship Opportunities

  • ADHD

    NBCUniversal Tony Coelho Media Scholarship - The American Association of People with Disabilities offers scholarships to students pursuing interests in the entertainment, media, or communications industries. 

    Study.com Scholarship for Students with ADHD - Students with ADHD pursuing an undergraduate college degree can apply for this $500 academic award.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

    Study.com Scholarship for Students on the Autism Spectrum - Students on the autism spectrum pursuing an undergraduate college degree can apply for this $500 academic award.

  • Blind & Low Vision

    American Council of the Blind - ACB - Scholarships are awarded to students who are legally blind. They must be enrolled at a post-secondary institution or a vocational/technical school.  

    American Foundation for the Blind - AFB

    ■     The Rudolph Dillman Memorial Scholarship - Four scholarships of $2,500 each to undergraduates or graduates who are studying full-time in the field of rehabilitation or education of persons who are blind and/or visually impaired.
    ■       The Paul and Ellen Ruckes Scholarship - Two scholarships of $2,000 each to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in the field of engineering or in computer, physical, or life sciences.
    ■       The R.L. Gillette, Gladys C. Anderson, and Karen D. Carsel Memorial Scholarship - One scholarship of $3,500 given to a female undergraduate student studying music.
    ■       The Delta Gamma Foundation Florence Margaret Harvey Memorial Scholarship - One scholarship of $1,000 to an undergraduate or graduate student in the field of rehabilitation or education of persons who are blind or visually impaired.

    Dr. Samuel Genensky Memorial Magnification Award Program - Lighthouse Guild supports higher education for all individuals and acknowledges the achievements of academically qualified high school and college students who are seeking to further their education. We offer scholarships for students with vision loss that help them make a successful transition to college and graduate education.

    Lighthouse Guild Scholarship - Each year, the Lighthouse Guild scholarship program helps outstanding and deserving legally blind high school students from across the country attend college with scholarships of up to $10,000. Scholarships are based on strong academic accomplishments and merit, and provide additional financial support to help students make a successful transition from high school to a college or university of their choice. 

    National Federation of the Blind - NFB - The National Federation of the Blind's annual scholarship program is the largest of its kind in the nation. Every year, we award more than $120,000 to blind scholars across the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico in recognition of their achievements and professional aspirations. Thanks to our generous partners, there are thirty merit-based scholarships currently available, ranging from $3,000 to $12,000. All scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, community service, and leadership. 

    National Federation of the Blind of Colorado - NFBCO - The National Federation of the Blind offers scholarships to post-secondary students of all ages. There are scholarships available from the national organization (the National Federation of the Blind) as well as from the state affiliate (the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado). Students are encouraged to apply to both organizations.

    National Federation for the Blind Scholarship Program - To recognize achievement by blind scholars, the National Federation of the Blind annually offers blind college students in the United States and Puerto Rico the opportunity to win one of thirty merit-based, national-level scholarships worth from $3,000 to $12,000. All scholarships awarded are based on academic excellence, community service, and leadership.

    Scheigert Scholarship - The Council of Citizens with Low Vision International offers a scholarship program available to full-time college students with Low Vision chosen from among those who meet the visual acuity and academic guidelines.

  • Chronic Illness

    Patient Advocate Foundation - The purpose of our scholarship program is to provide support to individuals that are legal residents of the United States of America pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies who have been diagnosed with or treated for cancer, or a chronic and/or life threatening debilitating disease as a child or young adult. Applicants will receive $3,000 annually up to four consecutive years, as long as they meet the guidelines of the program. 

  • Deaf or Hard of Hearing

    AG Bell College Scholarship Program - For full-time students who are deaf or hard of hearing and use listening and spoken language

    Cochlear Graeme Clark Scholarship - The Cochlear Graeme Clark Scholarship is a unique award open to Nucleus Cochlear Implant recipients around the world. Awarded by Cochlear, this scholarship has been set up to help individuals further themselves by undertaking university studies.

    George H. Nofer Scholarship for Law and Public Policy -  For full-time graduate students with a moderately severe to profound hearing loss who are attending an accredited law school or a masters or doctoral program in public policy or public administration.

    Sertoma Scholarship - Sertoma’s Scholarship for the Hard of Hearing or Deaf, is the leading founder of scholarships for hard of hearing or deaf students since the program’s inception in 1994. Students with clinically significant bilateral hearing loss, graduating from high school, or undergraduate students pursuing four-year college degrees in any discipline are eligible for the scholarship. 

  • Learning Disabilities

    Marion Huber Learning Through Listening Award - The Marion Huber Learning Through Listening Award is an award for high school seniors with learning disabilities who are Learning Ally members.

    P. Buckley Moss Foundation - The P. Buckley Moss Endowed Scholarship is an up to $1,000.00 financial award given annually to one high school senior with a verified financial need, a verified language-related learning difference, visual arts talent, acceptance to an accredited four-year college or university or two-year community college, and has the intent to pursue a career in a visual arts field

    RiSE Scholarship Foundation - The RiSE Scholarship Foundation provides several scholarships to students who learn differently. 

    Study.com Scholarship for Students with Dyslexia - Students with dyslexia pursuing an undergraduate college degree can apply for this $500 academic award.

  • Physical Disabilities

    The Prejax Foundation Scholarship - Provide college tuition assistance in the form of $1,000 scholarships to exceptional students who either have a parent with MS or have themselves been diagnosed with MS.

    180 Medical Scholarship Program - This scholarship is awarded to students attending a two-year, four-year, or graduate school program full time. Applicants must be under a physician’s care for a spinal cord injury, spina bifida, transverse myelitis, neurogenic bladder, or ostomy (ileostomy, colostomy, or urostomy). Seven $1,000 college scholarships will be awarded.

    1800wheelchair.com Scholarship - The 1800wheelchair scholarship fund now bestows one or two $500 awards each year to students who create a visual poem that represents a personal challenge they have overcome. 

  • Psychological Disabilities

    Baer Reintegration Scholarships - The Center for Reintegration offers scholarships for students with Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, or Bipolar Disorder. 

  • General Scholarships

    American Association on Health and Disability - AAHD - The AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability is awarded annually to  deserving  students with a disability who are pursuing undergraduate/graduate studies (must be at least enrolled as a sophomore in college) in an accredited university who is pursuing studies related to the health and disability, to include, but not limited to public health, health promotion, disability studies, disability research, rehabilitation engineering, audiology, disability policy, special education and majors that will impact quality of life of persons with disabilities.

    American Association of People with Disabilities - AAPD - The NBCUniversal Tony Coelho Media Scholarship will offer eight (8) scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities who are interested in pursuing a career in the communications, media, or entertainment industry. Each recipient will receive $5,625 to help cover the cost of education at their current college or university.

    Microsoft disability Scholarship - This scholarship will be awarded to promising high school seniors with disabilities who plan to attend a vocational or academic college and have a financial need and target a career in the technology industry.The amount of this renewable scholarship to be awarded is $5,000 per year, up to $20,000 total.

    Rent A Knee Walker - scholarship available for all students, with priority given to students with a physical disability.

    Specific Medical Conditions - This website has scholarships listed that are for students with specific medical conditions.

    Study.com Scholarship for Students with Dyslexia - Students with any disability pursuing an undergraduate college degree can apply for this $500 academic award.

    Test Prep Insight Scholarship - Scholarship specifically for students with disabilities, with the goal of leveling the financial playing field for disabled students, so they can fosuc on academic success

    University HQ - A list of current scholarship opportunities for students with disabilities.

    Ziper Mobility Scholarship - Zip’r Mobility awards a $500 scholarship to one incoming or enrolled college student. There are no requirements in terms of physical disability or ability.
