About Me

Year: Sophomore

Major/Minor: Mexican American Studies for Secondary Education with a CLD endorsement

Involvement: On campus, I am the vice president of MÁS Society and also involved with CHE and I am a Cumbres scholar.

Why I want to be a part of Student Senate:There are several reasons that I would like to be a part of Student Senate. It is important to be an advocate for everything that you are truly passionate about. I care about the mental health of college students, having a more diverse campus with the resources and support that go with diversity, and most importantly my community. UNC has been moving towards becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution, and while there are resources available to students of color, there is so much more that needs to be done. I would love the opportunity to represent our Bears and to be able to be a voice for all students.

Qualities/Experiences: With the position that I seek, I have several qualities that make me an ideal person to become a senator. I have been described by people that know me as charismatic, energetic, and compassionate. I truly enjoy listening to people and collaborating with a team. As MÁS Society vice president, I have worked with an amazing team to build a group where people can join and connect with the UNC community. I can be very loud, but I also know when to use that loudness. I am truly passionate about our community, and I always love meeting new people.

2022-2023 Goals

My biggest goal this year is to help our campus prosper. I would work and collaborate with the student body to ensure that our policies are putting students first. We have been living in very uncertain times, and the pandemic has changed our college experience. I would like to say I would help get things back to normal, but there is no going back to the old normal. I would rather help move our campus to a new normal and build on the foundations of our past for a better tomorrow. I would strive to be an approachable person for all students to be able to come to and voice their concerns. I would also continue to help foster a safe and inclusive environment and help our community grow. I would foster this environment by advocating for UNC to commit to anti-bias and anti-racist training for all students, faculty, staff, and administration. It is important that as a community we keep moving forward and keep making changes to improve the college experience of all students.
