UNC EAS senior, Katie Nelson was awarded a McNair Fellowship for the 2018-2019 academic year, and will be presenting a research paper entitled “Short-term topographic changes at the Overlook crater lava lake, Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii revealed through multi-temporal terrestrial LiDAR scanning” at the 2019 International Union of Geology and Geophysics (IUGG) meeting in Montreal, Canada this July.
Katie also participated in the Canary Islands Volcanic Institute during the summer of 2018 where she learned various geophysical approaches to volcano monitoring.
