Meet the UNCCRI Staff
Reid Hayward, Ph.D.
Dr. Reid Hayward serves as the Director of UNCCRI. He is a Professor of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Northern Colorado, and is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Physiological Society. Dr. Hayward oversees all UNCCRI operations.
Michael Lazio, M.S.
Michael Lazio serves as the UNCCRI Clinical Coordinator. He is a Certified Exercise Physiologist and a Clinical Cancer Exercise Specialist. He earned his undergraduate degree and his master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado. After leaving UNC he directed the CancerFit Program for the City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado. In his current role as the Clinical Coordinator, Mike is responsible for the coordination of all clinical services, he supervises UNCCRI staff and students, and he oversees all daily operations of the Institute.
Allison Mendes, M.S.
Allison Mendes serves as the Program Manager for UNCCRI. She is recently a graduate student completed her degree in Exercise Physiology at UNC. She was also the former Graduate Assistant here at UNCCRI. Allison manages all patient intake and referral procedures, is responsible for scheduling initial patient physical assessments, assists with UNCCRI staff training, and oversees daily operations of the Institute.
Nick Harmon, M.S.
Nick Harman is the UNCCRI Graduate Assistant, and he is currently pursuing his PhD in Exercise Physiology. He has experience with several different clinical populations in the field of exercise rehabilitation, Including spinal cord injuries, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. His duties as the Graduate Assistant at UNCCRI include supervision of Cancer Exercise Specialists, assisting with exercise assessments and interventions, and oversee ongoing clinical research studies.
PT, MPT, CLT
UNCCRI has partnered with Oncology Rehab, a national clinical leader in oncology rehabilitation, to provide physical therapy services in our facility. Leslie is an employee with Oncology Rehab and works directly with UNCCRI to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services for our patients. Leslie received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Wyoming in 1997 and her Master of Physical Therapy from the University of North Dakota in 2001. She is a certified lymphedema therapist (CLT) with training from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies. In addition to oncology rehab, Leslie has experience working in outpatient orthopedics. Leslie is married and has two children. She enjoys snowshoeing, hiking and gardening in her spare time.
Sadie Stark, an employee with Oncology Rehab, serves as the Office Administrator for UNCCRI and scheduler for Physical Therapy staff on site. Sadie received her bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sport Science at Western State Colorado University. She has experience in exercise training special populations as well as strength and conditioning for athletic teams.
