Admission Requirements

We welcome applicants who share our commitment to caring for patients, serving communities, and advancing health equity. Our admissions process is mission-merit based, designed to evaluate both academic preparation and alignment with our values. We look for students who are not only dedicated scholars but also compassionate, service-minded leaders eager to grow as patient-centered physicians.

Bachelor's Degree Requirement 

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited US institution conferred before July 1 of intended matriculation year. 

Minimum MCAT Score & GPA 

  • A minimum MCAT score of 498 is required, with no subsection below 123. Scores must be from within the previous three years. 
  • A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is required (an overall BCPM GPA of 3.4 or higher is recommended). 

Letters of Recommendation 

  • One composite letter from a pre-health committee OR three individual letters of recommendation: 
  • Two letters from faculty members 
  • One letter from a supervisor or preceptor who can speak to your clinical experience (a letter from a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine is recommended). 

Community Engagement and Service 

  • Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to service and community through outreach, advocacy, or service activities. 

Citizenship and Background Verification 

  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident (green card holders), or DACA recipient. 
  • A background check must be successfully completed prior to matriculation.

Application Process

  • 1. Apply via AACOMAS

    Submit your primary application through the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service (AACOMAS). Be sure to include all transcripts, test scores, and required documents. 

  • 2. Supplemental Application and Fee ($75)

    Eligible applicants will receive an email invitation to complete our supplemental application and submit a $75 nonrefundable fee via the AMP portal. This application is designed to assess mission fit for UNC COM as well as evaluate your written and verbal communication skills.

  • 3. Screening

    Our admissions team reviews each application, considering academic performance, regional connection, community engagement and impact, exposure to healthcare, leadership, research, and alignment withUNC COM values

  • 4. Interview Invitation

    Selected applicants will be invited to participate in an interview via email and must confirm and select a time via the AMP portal. 

  • 5. Interview

    Applicants must complete two live virtual, one-on-one interviews conducted via the Kira Talent platform. One interview will be an application blind interview based on the AAMC PreMed Competencies for Entering Medical Studentsand the other interview will be a semi-structured open-application interview on the Kira Talent platform.

  • 6. Admissions Decision

    Following the interview, applicants' files are reviewed by the admissions committee and applicants will be notified of an admissions decision. Offers are extended on a rolling basis

  • 7. Enrollment Deposits

    UNC COM adheres to the AACOMAS Traffic Guidelines.  UNC COM requiresa $400 enrollment deposit. Applicants must submit a $150 deposit to hold their position in the class, and the remaining balance must be paid by May 1. Applicants who fail to follow the AACOMAS guidelines will receive a one-time courtesy email, and failure to act will result in a rescission of the admission offer. 

  • 8. Matriculation Documentation and Background Check (by July 1)

    All required documentation, including a background check, must be completed by July 1 to ensure timely enrollment. Please refer to the AMP portal for a list of required documents.

Plains To Peaks Pathway

In support of our mission to positively impact the physician workforce in Colorado, the High Plains, and the Intermountain region, UNC COM offers a guaranteed interview pathway for students from targeted states. This guarantee is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is based on the number of interview slots per admissions cycle, which can range from 500 to 1100.  This pathway ensures that qualified applicants from our region have a clear opportunity to demonstrate their readiness for medical school. Applicants will receive a guaranteed interview if they are residents of, or currently attending an undergraduate or graduate institution in, one of the following states: Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Nebraska, South Dakota, or North Dakota.

Applicants must also meet the following criteria: 

  1. Meet Minimum Admissions Standards
    Satisfy the minimum academic and admissions requirements outlined in UNC COM’s Admissions Requirements Policy. 
  2. MCAT Score
    Earn a Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) score of 502 or higher within three attempts. 
  3. Science GPA Requirement
    Hold an overall Science GPA or graduate Science GPA of 3.5 or higher.
    Science refers to classes taught in Biology/Biomedical science, Chemistry, Physics, or Math departments.  
  4. Application Submission
    Complete and submit the AACOMAS application to UNC COM. 
  5. Supplemental Application
    Complete the UNC COM supplemental application. 
  6. Application Fee
    Submit the $75 supplemental application fee.
