Settling into your man cave, college edition

Bear cave i.e. tent

Forget throw pillows and Pinterest. As a guy, you may not be interested in figuring out the best way to monogram everything you own. You also may not want your mom decorating your room. So here are a few do-it-yourself ideas to steal from an admittedly Pinterest-savvy girl as you settle into your residence hall room (a.k.a. man cave).

Posters

Bare walls are just the worst, so go for some posters, maybe of bands or movies or sports teams. Please, for your college fund’s sake, use Command™ strips or other "safe" adhesives to put the posters up. That way you won't peel all the paint off the walls and end up being charged for damages.

Photos

As long as you don’t arrange them in some kind of heart shape, there is nothing wrong with putting important people up on your wall. (Or put them in a heart; girls love a guy who loves his family!)

Pennants

This would be another great way to showcase your favorite teams or show your school spirit.

Calendar

Staying organized never goes out of style, whether you do so with a paper calendar or a whiteboard that also has room for all of your boredom drawings.

Tapestries

A tapestry is a piece of fabric that you hang up to cover part of your wall (be sure to check your residence hall rules for a bigger decoration like this). If you are looking for a cool pop of color try Society 6, which sells thousands of small artists' designs in different sized tapestries.

In summary, decorating your residence hall room isn’t just for girls! What you have in your room can be a great conversation starter and make your study space more interesting. You may be spending a lot of time in that tiny room, so you might as well make the most of your space.
