Student Leaf Representatives
Joelle Jenkins is a fourth year Environmental and Sustainability Studies Major with minors in Biology and Sociology. After finishing undergrad, her plans are to move away from home – Denver, Colorado – to pursue the next level of her educational career in Sociology. Following this, she would like to become an environmental sociologist and professor. The past year at UNC, Joelle has spent her time working as the Green Team Coordinator and Public Relations Officer for LEAF outside of her educational duties. Currently, she is partnering with the Benedict Ornithology Lab as the Illustrator and Digital Media Assistant, working as a UNC Goal Peer Mentor, and starting her research project with the McNair Scholars Program. Her overall goal in life is to get non-white communities excited about the many forms of sustainability (environmental, cultural, social, etc.) and saving the planet.
Emmy Scott was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona but fell in love with Colorado when she came for an All-star cheer competition in high school hosted in Loveland. Emmy is now a double major undergrad in environmental studies and business management, with a minor in communications. Since her sophomore year she has served on the LEAF committee as the grant coordinator. Her overall career goal is to become an environmental consultant for small and large firms. She’d like to flip the world of business on its’ head by helping existing corporations convert to sustainable, as well as ethical, business practices! She believes business can save money and the earth at the same time with a triple bottom line. She is also the president of another UNC club called Earth Guardians. Earth Guardians is a global organization of environmental activist; her chapter at UNC plans educational/exciting events on campus, and within the community, to raise awareness of environmental injustices. Lastly, she is actively involved in the cultural organizations on campus, including, but not limited to, the Black Student Union and African Students United. You might catch Emmy on campus hand-feeding the squirrels tree nuts (even though she knows she shouldn’t), bumping some tunes, or at an event rallying for ethical change. Regardless, feel free to approach her with any questions or concerns about the clubs/environment - or to say hi! Pronouns: she, her, hers.
Baylee Peterson is majoring Environmental and Sustainably Studies with a minor in environmental Economics. After graduating she plans on pursuing a masters degree in an environmental field. Baylee has been apart of Student LEAF for about a year and is the the current Secretary and Treasurer. In the future she hopes to be involved in sustainable projects on a national and international level. She hopes that these projects will connect more people and communities to the sustainable projects that can make a difference.
Braden Evans is a Second year Environmental Studies Major and a first year LEAF member serving as the public relations officer. Braden is from Durango Colorado where he found a love for all things outdoors. Whether is be camping or snowboarding you can count on Braden hanging out in a forest somewhere or near a lake. He is also a member of the rugby team here at UNC and enjoys working toward bettering him self everyday. Braden has always wanted to protect the environment and is excited to continue that adventure with student LEAF. He hopes to help student LEAF gain traction on campus and help open the environmental conversation to new groups and people to help the sustainability movement on campus grow. He is excited for the opportunity and just can't wait to get things moving!
