Education & Training

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and my Master’s in Counseling & Guidance at New Mexico State University. I received my doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Indiana University. My training experiences include providing services in Spanish to immigrant and student communities, as well as providing supervision in Spanish.  I became a Colorado transplant in the summer of 2016 after being matched to Colorado State University for my doctoral internship.

Current Roles

I currently serve as the Director of Clinical Services.  My role is to coordinate and provide leadership for clinical services related to mental health and wellness, while balancing staff and organizational well-being.   I also provide supervision to doctoral interns and staff at a post-doctoral and post-master’s level.  Clinically, I work primarily with students of color and students who hold marginalized identities.

Therapeutic & Supervision Approaches

As a therapist, I am warm and supportive, yet gently challenging when opportunities for growth arise.  I fundamentally believe that most mental health concerns occur in response to oppressive environments, histories, and situations.  I also believe that relationships and community are an essential part of our healing as human beings, and center the therapeutic relationship in the healing process. I work a great deal from an empowerment stance, helping students come into their own strengths to overcome everyday struggles and support them as they navigate different sources of oppression.

As a supervisor, I work from an Integrative Developmental model and integrate pieces of my theoretical foundations, Feminist Theory and Interpersonal Process Theory.  I enjoy helping trainees grow and gain comfort in integrating these components into their own work or supplementing their own approaches.  As a Spanish speaker, I also enjoy providing bilingual supervision.

About Me

I grew up in southern New Mexico.  In my spare time, I enjoy going on walks, trying new recipes, home improvement projects, kickboxing, and trying out food trucks and hole-in-the-wall restaurants.  But really, I am a homebody at heart and love curling up on the couch watching comedies or Grey’s Anatomy.
