You Are Welcome Here

At the UNC Counseling Center, we see you—and we know that navigating college life can be especially challenging when you’re also facing the weight of systemic injustice or carrying the impact of marginalized identities.

We’re here to support you.

We also want to acknowledge that the fields of psychology and mental health care haven’t always done right by everyone. As professionals in this space, we take responsibility for our part in that history. We know our own identities, privileges, and biases can affect how safe and supported you feel. That’s why we’re always working to do better—and we welcome your feedback as part of that process.

Our values guide us. We’re committed to:

  • Inclusion and equity-minded practices
  • Personal and collective accountability
  • Respect for you and your lived experience
  • Social justice and anti-oppressive care
  • Reducing mental health stigma
  • Honoring diversity in all its forms

We don’t just say these things—we work every day to live them. You matter here.
